Low-grade inflammation and the skin barrier

6 min read

A compromised barrier and persistent low-grade inflammation reinforce each other. Breaking the loop starts with doing less, not more.

Over-exfoliation, fragrance sensitivity and layering too many actives are common causes of a persistently irritated barrier — often in people who are trying hardest to care for their skin.

The corrective move is usually subtractive: simplify, restore, then reintroduce actives one at a time with enough interval to observe the effect.

Regular reassessment makes this visible. When you can compare hydration and redness attributes month over month, simplification stops feeling like giving up and starts looking like progress.
